THE NEW FLYING SCOTSMAN."
[FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.)
LONDON, April 21st.
The King has approved the appointment of three new Knights of the Most Noble Order of the Garter-namely, the Earl of Ath lone, the Duke of Abercorn, and The Earl of Lord Desborough.
Athlone, Governor-General of South, Afrien, is the third son of the late Duke of Teck and a brother of the Queen As mentioned In previous letter he and the Coun- tean have suffered the loss of their only son Lord Trematon in a motor acoldent.
Some of these patents are ingeni ous and useful; others, alas are fraught with danger and trouble to the purchaser.
Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Carter, who "live in 'a Los Angeles flat, are seek- ing £9,000 damages for personal in- juries following the buying" of a fold-up bed. They claim that they were quietly sleeping when the bed suddenly folded itself up and en- closed them securely in a stifling embrace.
The inventor of the bed one Theodore Wald, explained to the judge just how the patent worked, but the judge decided that a de monstration in court might be more
effective.
Apparently the wife thinks thai she suffered the greatest injury to her feelings, for she demands £7,000. But the husband will be
tent with £1,000.
