MUST SEEK A NEW PROFESSION.

A little more than half an hour after he had been brought to Man- sion House Police Court on April 21st for the initial proceedings in connection with a number of charges of fraudulent conversion of money entrusted to him in his capacity of sclicitor Lord Terrington was on his way in a taxienb to Brixton Service. Prison

He had passed the previous night at oor-lane police station, Cripple- gate, whither he had been taken immediately on his arrival in Lon- don from France in the charge of two detectives.

At.breakfast time Lady Terrington had visited him at the police station and she and a nurse accompanied him to the police court.

While he waited for the proceed. ings to begin Lord Terrington sat with his wife within a yard of the dock und ebatted smilingly with her. He wore the conventional dress of a City' min-dark morning suit, smart navy blue overcoat, and butterfly collar.

A high colour suffused his face, but there was no sign of agitation in his manner.

Lady Terrington, who was in black, was a figure of restraint, and a black veil half hid her pale face.

In The Dock,

As soon as Sir Louis, Newton, the magistrate, had taken his seat, the usher helped Lord Terrington to rise from his chair and guided him to another place just within the dack:

Lord Terrington made the few "steps to it very slowly, and sank on to it very wearily.

"This case, sir,” said the clerk to Sir Louis; is brought here on a warrant issued on February 95th last year by Sir Bowland Bladea, the then Lord Mayor. It cites a large number of charges, all under the Larceny Act"

· Mr. Et Clayton, for 'the Public Prosecutor, announced that he pro- posed to offer oal evidence of arrest. The charges--the details of which filled seven long charge- sheets and dealt with. 21 alleged instances of fraudulent conversions involving a total amount of about £70,000—were not read,

"Anxious. To Return." Evidence of arrest was given by Detective-Inspector George Stub bings, who, with Detective-Sergeant Hogg, took over Lord Terrington from the French police on his extra- dition.

It will be remembered that a Reuter cable briefly announced that Commander Henry Martin Daniel, D.S.O., one of the two officers die missed their ship by the Royal Oak court-martial, decided to leave the

As to Admiral Collard, whom the

I have always maintained that my personal relationships with Admiral Collard were friendly and pleasant, and I still think that the principle for which I made my stand could have been safeguarded without turning the storm in a teacup into a scandal reflecting upon the Service as a whole.
