CRAIGENGOWER WELL BEATEN.

CHINESE R.C. SCORE QUADRUPLE VICTORY.

Whatever hopes the Craigengewer may have entertained at the begin ning of the season of winning the "A" Division Shield were destroy ed on Saturday when they lost to the Chinese Recreation Club by a very big margin. It was at first expected that they would put up a good struggle, but when the time came the Chinese proved to be by

The vic far the superior team. torious team had the lead soon after the start and never lost it, increas ing it as the match progressed. Their pairs scored an average of 2 games and lost one set only out of the nine, by 5-8. The Lo brothers came off best, securing 3 games in all, including a 10-1. By their convincing, performance, the Chinese are Dow easy favourites for the Shield and unless something very extraordinary happens, they will win it.

The M. B.K.-I.R.C. match turned out to be the best of the three in Division. The two teams tho A kept close to each other right from the start with the Japanese lead- ing. Up to the last set the score was still close, it being 47-41, but 10-1 by Handa and Akiyama gave the M.B.K. the match by the good margin of 15 games. Honda and Akiyama gave the best perfor mance in the match winning all their sets and securing 24 games in all.

University gained an unexpected- ly easy victory over the Kowloon Cricket Club in the other match in the "A" Division. The score of 64 to 35 games is suggestive of the former's superiority. Dr. Totten ham played in the team which won all nine sets.

The feature of the League was the performances of the four teams of the Chinese Recreation Club who won all their matches. Much more will probably be said and written about them as the season progresses as the other Clubs are not at all comfortable at the prospect of moet ing them in any division, and it seems likely at the present time that they will repeat their success of the past two years. On Satur. day they beat Craigezgower in the

B' "A" Royal Engineers in the and R.A.O.C. and Y.M.C.A. in the "C."

A heavier programme was carried out on Saturday than on the opening day of the season. Sixteen matches in all were decided and while in the majority of cases the winners had- things their own way an atmosphere of keen competition pervaded throughout. Of the new-comers in the "C" Division, only the Club de Recreio Second met with success.. The R.A.M.C. and Civil Service two newcomers played each other, the Intter winning.
