HANDKERCHIEF LINEN, GEORGETTE, AND CREPE MAKE A GRACEFUL MODE.

Afternoon frocks seem to have received very special thought from the designers this season. It may be because the little sports suit has taken so strong a hold or because of the tendency towards picture frocks for evening wear. An after- noon frock can be quite simple, in which case it is of exquisite cut and material, or it may be one of these dainty Huffy garments which seem designed for dancing. Sometimes it has more formal, lines, and is made of crepe de chine with vest, cuffs, and interesting insertions and ruchings. "But whatever an after- noon frock may be in style it is always chic and always has just a suggestion of importance.

was looking through Lane, Crawford's collection. Very attrac tive is a pale blue georgette which has a deep yoke and hem of fine pleating. The plain part which fits round the hips and might, perhaps be called a bolt has uneven lines both top and bottom. The sleeveless effect, with an almost directoirs cut softened by the pleating gives a decidedly classical look which is very pleasing on the modern slender figure.

A group of pretty little frocks are made of brightly coloured hand- kerchief liten, embroidered with joura. Printed georgette with a pattern of lemon yellow and the palest green on 'while makes a lovely little frock with a scalloped hem. It has quaint sleeves which are slashed just above the cuff, the slashing being bound with the same narrow green edge as is used on the handkerchief draperies of the Akirt.

A beautiful dress is made of beige georgette over satin of the same tone. The under-dress 'has a lace yoke which shows through the georgette. The draped skirt which is longer on the left side is bound with the same antin. A very pretty wing drapery on the bodice at the back and a diamanté buckie to hold the fullness on the left hip are chic notes which do much to give the dress its particular style. GRACE WITHOUT DIETING.

SOME MODEL FROCKS CHEZ PAMELA

We are all slender to-day; some of a naturally so, some of us diet, and the wisest live healthy happy lives and wear model frocks. For that is the greatest secret, more afficatious than lemons or lettuce and ever so much more pleasant. There is no need to tell any one. what difference the cut of a garment makes to her appearance, for everyone has at one time or an- other had a frock or cost in which they realised that they looked 100 per cent, more attractive.

Considering the cult of the boyish figure it is not surprising that the efforts of dress designers have been concentrated on the problem of slenderising, and you will realise to the full what the result of their. study has been if you see yourself in one of the latest model frocks. PAMELA has some delightful tennis frocks has some Paton models. I overheard someone in the shop say that they were quite plain and straight" in disappointed tones but that is just what they are not.

Each one is made up of an amaz ing number of sections so cut and fitted together that the figure is followed exactly. The result is that there is not a fraction of an inch. of superfluous fallness anywhere, and yet they are nowkere tight, having on the other hand those straight easy lines which are the

cssence of chie,

Some of the big designers will not make a dress for anyone who is other than stock size, because they

maintain that the charm of each model depends on the proportions. But Pamela is kinder, and you can have any of these models made for yourself with the necessary adjust- ments desirable for your height or figure.

I saw there, too, a very charm- ing Worth model of printed geor- gette intended for afternoon wear. The material is white patterned in aquares with pink roses, the loose panels of the skirt boing bound with green silk The under-dress of white georgette has scalloped hem, and a silver buckle gives a charm-| ing finish at the waistsite

A couple of capes from Chanel are delightful Ons is of white and the other madonne blus fine serge They are beautifully qut with long surplice collars and bang very gracefully. The cape is making a very decided bið; for favour, in Paris just now and is certaintys“ very graceful garment which most English women wear well

FLOWER LIKE FROCKS.

Inspired by the delicate colours of spring flowers are there' three pretty frocks" for little girls, Daffodil yellow linen is the material used for the dress on the left, which has an un- usual pleated “apron" to form the front of the skirt, edged with a fresh leaf-green. On the right is a frock of periwinkle-blue linen, hemstitched in white and finished with cuffs and equare neckhand of white linen. Pale primrose linen makes the attraes tive little model in the centre, linen of a slightly deeper yellow being used for the primroser appliquéd round the hem.
