IRISH MOTORING TRIAL.. Snow and ice turned the Leinster Club's recent trial into a severs test for both riders and machines; in fact, so gruelling were the conditions that by the time the competitors had reached Killinardan Moor and the second check at Ballinascorney Gap, all but two had lost marks on time. Then the course took its toll with a vengeance eleven failed at the next check at Stone Cross, and four more fell out before Annacarter was resched.

Only five of the twenty-four starters finished, and of these, the three Triumphs which started finished first, second and third. Freddie Holmes on bis 494 &c. What is more important, to my mind, is the fact that there is not likely to be any slackening off of progress under any of the beadings mentioned with the exception of ilitary vehicles, and in view of the fact that expansion in the num- ber of vehicles is not being met by corresponding increase in the area over which they can operate one can only conclude that traffic

had been drawn up long before th reet collision happened and the Automobile Association were taking the matter in hand, and were about to apply to the Government to sanction their proposal.

The Association had studied the question thoroughly and several ideas were, put forward. The first and most important of these was to apply to the Hong Kong & Shang- hai Bank for permission to cut away a few feet of the present curving wall, which completely

and obstructs the view of cars both, descending and ascending Garden Road. Should this plan be possible, then the width of the road at the Tramway entrance would be con- siderably increased and drivers would have an adequate view ahead.

the

The second suggestion, is to ex- tead the Tramway shelter to a point near the 'Bus stop." This path- way is Government property, and the Tramway could not be called upon to extend their rhelter, but," said Mr. Upsdell, "the Government. we hope, might again come forward to assist the Association." This would enable cars to stop well clear of the congested curve at the Tram- way entrance, and if it rains, the shelter would afford extra protec tion to the passengers. Should this plan be carried out it woul) be necessary to see that the Tramway time lights were not hidden. These are the two main suggestions, and either would be appreciated by all motorists in, the Colony. The Automobile Association is respon sible for putting these forward and they deserve overy support from motorista.

This meanx fierce accelera tion right from the bottom of the road, sad by the time they have reached the Station, they are prae- tically all out. This has its obvious advantages from the motorists point of view hut it, is not very ende with blind curve ahead..

The suggestion of the Association is that motorists should change at the light signals, and pass the Station at a moderate speed.

If the posts, at present blocking the exit of the lane beside "zhe "Bank "premises were removed it would be possible for cars, drop ping passengers at the Peak Tram way Station, to back through this lane and then pass down Garden Road, vid the Volunteer Herd. quarters corner. The lane would, of course, have to be made & one way traffic lane.
