TSINAN SITUATION EASIER.

CHINESE INDIGNATION AT INVASION.

PROTESTS TO THE LEAGUE OF NATIONS.

CALL FOR UNITED ACTION.

There is but little news of activity at Tainan, which may be taken as a good omen. Fighting appears to have died down, and though the situation is still serious, the crisis is now passed, Reports in the vernacular papers insist that Marshal Chiang Kai Shek is setting out for the freat with almost all his men, and is. leaving. Feng Yu Hsiang at Teinan with a small force. This, if it is true, at least shows Marshal Chiang's confidence in the situation, but at the same time seems rather a dangerous move. for he alone has managed to keep in personal touch with the Japanese throughout the trouble.

Indignation with Japan is rampant throughout Chins, and there has even been an attempt to unite North and South against 'the common enemy.

The Home Press has given the recent trouble great prominence. Editorial comment sides with Japan on the whole, though several papere consider that Japan has got herself into such a position that she will now find it extremely difficult, to extricate herself.

The correspondent of the Manchester Guardian, who has just reached Tsingtao from Tsinan, confirms the statement iuvred earlier that, English and American residents in Tainan are safe. He believes that all foreigners will evacuate Trinan "as soon as the railway is restored to working order. :.
