General improvement marks the fabour situation in Shanghai during the month of April, as evidenced by facts and figures gathered by the Cureau of Statistics, Department of Agriculture, Labour and Commerce of the Municipality of Greater Shanghai.

Twelve strikes occurred last month as compared with 10 in March.

Among the 12 cases, it may be noted, two strikes those of silver smiths and Hwa Sung Electric Com: pany employees-were extended from the previous month.

Drop In Total Of Strikers, Though the number of strikes in each of the last two months re- mains practically the same, a wide margin is revealed by figures show ing the number of workers affected. Approximately 60,500, workers went on strike in March, while the total number of strikers in April did not exceed 3,400. Furthermore, all of the April strikes were limited in cope, none of them having given rise to a complete standstill of any industry throughout the whole city of Shanghai, as was the case, of the silk filatures strike in March.
