ASSASSIN THROWS AWAY REVOLVER AND ESCAPES.

Mr. Lee Hyeon, one of the leading members of the Chinese commmity in Hong Kong, was murdered yesterday at f.15 p.m. at the entrance to the Tae Kee Club, 196, Wellington Street.

The now of Mr. Lee Hysan's death came as a great shock to his numerous friends, many of whom burried to the scene and were beside the dead body within a short space of time.

Mr. Leo Hysan was shot three times from behind by his assailant, who was also a Chinese. The murderer made good his escape after throwing away his revolver. There were many per... sons is the street, but so far as was known no one made any attempt to give chase to the assassin.

There was a most pathetis scene on the arrival of Mrs. Lee Hysan and other members of his household. They were rushed to the place by motor cars from their home at Kennedy Road and immediately they saw the dead body a scene of great distres followed. Mre. Lee Hysan was almost demented and had to be taken away by force from her husband's body. Other members of the murdered man's family arrived later,

The

news of the assassination spread with astonishing rapidity and within a few minutes of the occurrence, a huge crowd had assembled in Wellington Street near the scene of the tragedy.

On The Yne Kee Club Staircase. A Daily Press representative who arrived about a quarter of an hour after the murder, saw the body of Mr. Leo Hysan at the foot of the staircase leading to the Yue Kee Club. The dead man was dressed in a log Chinese gown of light blue silk and on his hip thers was

a small blood stain.

Enquiries revealed that Mr. Lee Hysan was shot three times from behind. One bullet penetrated just below the left shoulder and passed right through him. Another bullet found its mark just above the left hip and the other went through the right hip and embedded itself in the woodwork enclosing the staire.

Mr. Lee Hysan was heard to cry "Save Life" after the out once third bullet struck him, but when help arrived he was lying with his face upwards and quite. dead.

How The Assailant Escaped, The murderer must have known Mr. Los Hysan's movementa gure well and had apparently waited for him in the vicinity of the Yue Kes Club. Mr. Leo Hysa had been" in: the habit of visiting the club at least once daily and had always gone there for his tithin,

The real purpose of Japan's military expedition to China is not so much the protection of the lives and property of her nationals here on to enlarge the Japanese Move- ment in China, to offer aid to Chang Tso Lig, Sun Chuan Fang and others, to prevent the unification of China under the Nationalist Government, to keep China in a state of constant turmoil, and to continue ber “gun boat" policy of intimidation. Threatening Letters,

Mr. Lee Hysan apparently hail enemics in the Colony for it was stated that a few days prior to his murder that he had received several threatening letters. He did not pay the slightest attention to them: and went about his work as usual. M. Lee had; however, taken the precaution of arming himself with a revolver, but since he was shot from behind, he was unable to pro- tect himself.

A number of friend's commented on a curiously bad omen to the family which occurred at the wed- ding, of Mr. Lee Hysan's son to the daughter of afr. J. M. Wong. It will be recalled, by those present, that at the reception at Lee Garden, when Sir Robert Ho Tung was about to give the toast of the bride and bridegroom, the floor of the matched gave way. Fortunately no one was hurt as it was only three feet above the ground. The wed- ding cake was, however, broken, in three places, and much champagne spilled;
