FENGTIENESE SURPRISED IN SHANSI.
FLANK ATTACK BY CHRISTIAN. GENERAL'S TROOPS.
BIG FORCES FOR THE TEHCHOW DEFENCE LINE.
NORTHERNERS' STRONG DEFENCE OF TSINAN.
General Sun Chuan Fang has become something of a Will o' the Wisp since his defeat a few days ago by Marshal Feng. Yesterday ho was reported to be still holding Tsining with an' army. Today it is claimed that he is at Ningyang, north of Yen- chow, but still a long way south of the Nationalist front line, with 10,000 men. His presence somewhere at least appears sufficiently definite for Chang Tao Lin to send him money, men and munitions.
According to reports in the vernacular papers Lu Chung Lan; "one of Feng's generals, has made a dank attack upon the Feng- tienese operating against Shansi troops on the Taingtin Taiyuen Railway. Other of the Christian General's troops have surrounded body of Fengtienese troops near Shuntch in Southern Chihli. This points to very rapid movement on Feng's part, for the last heard of this part of his army was that it was more or less stationary to the north of Changts.
The Northerners appear to be going to make a big effort to stem the Nationalist advance at Tsinan, the capital of Shantung. The rather disorganised Shantung forces are being rallied at this. point and they intend to put up a considered plan of defence,
Meanwhile Chang Tso Lin. is concentrating upon his defence line at Tehchow, on the Chibli-Shantang border, Wu Chun Shing. the Tupan of Heilungkiang, has been chosen to lead down several brigades of Manchurian troops and to take charge there. SUN CHUAN FANG AGAIN.
