**The system of Travellers' Cheques war originated in 1891 by the American Express Company with the object of creating a form of travel currency which would give the holder the security of a letter of credit and at the mamTLES time the convenience of local currency. The Company registered the cheques under the trade name of AMERICAN EXPRESS TRAVELERS CHEQUER the word "Travellen" being spelled with -ons "1". The advantage of the Cheques was so apparat that other
