KWANGTUNG WAR LORDS.

ALLOTING SPHERES OF INFLUENCE,

A DELICATE TASK.

(FROM OUR CHINESE COBRESPONDENT]

CANTON, April 13th.

The latest official information concerning the military situation of Canton is that General Fan Shek Shang, commander of the 10th Army, in compliance with the order of Marshal Li Tsai Hsin, is to move his troops up to lchang and Lau- chow in the southern part of Hanan at the end of this month. General Fan and his soldiers will move into Hunan with the greatest re- instance, as they would prefer to remain in the northern "part of Kwangsung, which is a far richer and pleasanter district..

The 10th Army rendered an in- valuable service to the Government in suppressing the Communists at Lok Chang and Yan ra. The Communists bad äptured these two cities; and after partially look: ing and burning them, had set up of Soviet Government

Our fleet comes hero with the solo intention of fostering a better feeling among ourselves, China and Great Britain," said Admiral Kato at the luncheon given in his and the Japanese Fleet's honour yesterday afternoon at the To Yuen Res. taurant by the Chinese Chamber of Commerce.

Following the luncheon party, there was an "At Home" on board the H.I.J.M.S. Nayate. There were over thousand guests present and everyone was most cordially received, Japanese officers buing stationed at every corner of the ship" to guide visitors. A tour round the ship was then made. Immediately below the main deck were the officers' cabins, aH extremely neat and well furnished, A little periscope is installed in every officer's room so that while in his cabin he can see what i happening on deck, and also what vessels are passing by.

The engine room is about 32 feet below the water level and is spot- lessly clean. The men's quarters are spacious and well lighted.

The Galley.

In the galley there were piculs and piculi of diago (salted carrot) and un (salted plums). These two items form the sailors' chief diet. In time of necessity a sailor or soldier cha carry on with a few slices of salted carrot, a couple of plums and bowl of rice a day. The average cost of a man's food is about eight cents a day.
