GREAT

VICTORY.

The Kuomintang troops under Marshal Chiang Koi Shek have begun their advance, and have come into condict with the Shaatung forces, though there has not as yet been heavy fighting in this sector. The Southerners claim to have captured Yinchow, on the Shantung border, south of Lincheng

The vernacular papers have received a report that Marshal Chiang intends to launch an attack upon Jihchan, which is just inland from the Shantung coast line.

Marshal Feng Yu Heiang, the Christian General, claims, a little grandiloquently, a "great" victory. A niixed force of about 5,000 Fengtienese troops and members of the "Heavenly Gate" society advanced south of the Chengho, River in Northern Honan, but ware dispersed by the Kuominchun.

-

The Kuomintang Political Council have optimistically made appointments of district magistrates for the whole of Shantung and the southern part of Chihli. They have taken this action ia the belief that these districts will in the near future be under the rule of the Kuomintang.

No news has been received of the Fengtieness in the Tsingsing zone, but the vernacular papers have received a report, that the Fengtienese have captured Changte. From this it would appear that the Northerners have been succèssful in the former zone, and have. found it possible to move part of these troops to re-inforce their armies further south.
