At the annual meeting of the club last week there was talk of extending the course to 18 holes. It is a little difficult to see how an other holes can be added withoutponed.. utilizing ground which is even less fitted for goll than the present land, or alternatively, without cramping the course to such an extent that it becomes both con- gested and dangerous. Many a sporting little -hole course has been ruined before now by the duliness | r. or unsuitability of holes added mors for the reason of making it 18 holes than an 18-hole course.
Kowloon City is already an un-. usual course, but at present it is thoroughly sporting and a good shot generally gets rewarded. It seems. to me that it would be very difficult to lay out another 9 holes which would not stresss the eccentricities of the existing hine. That would be a pity, and would do no good to the course.

its existence, but actually it was surprising how many scuffled mashie shots used to race along the hill' and turn down the slope to the green. Then again many badly-cut shots played from a hanging lie on the slope will find the bunker, which is just as it should be.
On the 6th there is a new double bunker set just on the right hand corner of the green to catch loosely played second which pitches too high up the hill, but before this used to run down to the green. This is also quite right as one should not get birdies except from accurately played shots, This double bunker also serves very well to catch a sliced second to the 9th. and about half the seconds played to this hole are sliced. Before this the medium length second frequent ly found a perfectly good lie just about where the bunker now is, but the new bunker will get any. thing which is crooked and not too short."

All of which is very nice and in improvement to the course. But, still on the 9th hole, on the left and I suppose about 40 yards from the green, another bunker has been placed, of which it is not so easy to approve. To the short player this bunker should have no parti- cular significance, as even if he hooks his second so that it is on the line of his shot, the slope of the ground compels almost any shot The China Light and Power Co. to clear this bunker with yards to (1918), Ltd, for the excellent light SPALTE. There are a few giants in the land who can consider without conceit the possibility of covering these particular 505 yards in two shots, and perhaps it is right that their seconds should be punished if they are hooked.

However, in view of the number of medium length players, these few giants should nobly sacrifice their right to punishment on this hole, and for this reason. To the medium length player the possibility of reaching the green with his second calls forth a mad desire to do so, and should he succeed it is a real achievement. To reach the green with a straight second is just beyond the powers of many players, but there is a shot, a perfectly good and very difficult shot, played up the left of the course which pitches
