TWO ARRESTS FOLLOW MURDER OF EX-PREMIER AT TIENTSIN.
According to the vernacular Press, Marshal Li Tsai Hsin has been interviewing the leaders of the Nationalist Government at Nanking with reference to the post of Chief of Staff of the Kuo- mintang Armies, offered to him by Marshal Chiang Kai Shek. Marshal Li is reported emphatically to have declared his inability to undertake the duties, as Canton' required his attention. Ultimately, it was decided that the post should be offered to General Ho Ying Chien, It may, therefore, be presumed that Mar shal Li, who unquestionably is much needed in Kwangtung, will be able to return to Canton during the course of a week or two.
General Yang Sen and his troops on the Upper Reaches of the Yangtze, still appear to be somewhat of an enigma, it being still doubtful as to General Yang intentions. His latest move is a demand from the Hankow Kuomintang authorities of 30 per cent of the Hupeh Opium Tax for the purpose of enabling him to meet his military expenses. Twenty per rent, has been offered to him, but. not yet accepted; and the point is evidently in abeyance. This de- saand was one of eight made by General Yang: but the native Press does not specify the other seven,
The Tientsia Police are reported to have made two arrests in connection with the recent murder of "General Chang Shou Cheng, and a strict inquiry is being conducted.
