A different variety of their famous Pearl crêpe, which I like very much, has been received by the ProNEER SILK STORE, It is rather thinner and softer than the old Pearl créjie, has a watered effect giving just a suggestion of a line on the weave, and it is made in a wide range of colours. They have also a new stock of heavy and medium weight georgettes, and some very gay and pretty coolie coats for beach wear made of printed vyella..

I saw, a very lovely material in POROOMUL'S, a tinsel brocade, with a silver pattern woven over an under thread of pink silk. They only have the one piece, which prevents it being too popular, but they are. "If a man likes a Buddha, and the Buddha likes him, it will follow him," was Mr. Komer's explana-- tion.
A
It happened during the war. friend of Mr. Komers, an Austrian in the diplomatic service possessed a Siamese Buddha, a seated. image about eighteen inches high and of considerable weight. It had been cast of bronse and gilded, and had the traditional anails shells on its head to protect the sage from zain. The Buddha's features were far- einating in their life-like expression, and the hands were held out in the same position as those of the large Buddha, also Siamese, which stands to-day just inside Komor's. Both pose and the expression of the face suggest the words "Do not fear, I watch over you."
The owner of the figure, who was leaving the Colony to fight for his own country, asked Mr. Komor to take care of it for him during his absence, and to send it to him should he write for it,
It stood, so Mr. Komor told me, in a show case in the window for, some months, and he forgot its very existence. Stocktaking time came round and, in the courses of eater-. ing up the various articles in his shop, Mr. Komor came upon a Japanese 6gure of Buddha for which he could not account. No one remembered its purchase, but finally it was entered in the stockt book

I met in WHITEAWAY, LAIDLAW'z the other day a well-known young lady here who is shortly to be mar- ried: She took me to the back part of the shop, and, with perdonable pride, showed me the furniture which is being made there for her new home.
