Steering Gear Carried Away. According to Captain Burton, she left: Singapore on February 20th and bad weather was encountered as soon as she passed the Horsburgh Lighthouse Wind and seas in- creased with continuous radds up till February 24th, when the storm rose to its height the wind backing from N.N.E. 15 W and 8.W.

During this time the vessel's star- board boat was badly smashed, the stearing gear was carried away and No. 1 derricks broke adrift and were smashed. Even the maltheid

roofing of the bridge and aft-houses was blown off by the force of the wind.

Out Of Control.
