Saturday was set apart for the entertaining of HE the Governor of Hong Kong (Sir Cecil Clementi,ECMG) by the people of Canton representer 5)

of Commerce.

The day started with a confere between His Excellency and Marshal Ld Tain Hain. The vials were then entertained to luncheon by the Mayor of Canton, Mr in Wen Kal, in the National Garden The function was marked great cordiality and the Mayor, in proposing the health of his ests emphasised the need of friendship and good feeling betwers the two ports. H.E the Governor and Mr. J. F. Brenan, C.M.C., acting Consul- General, both spoke at this function and subsequently the party. were entertained to a dramatic performance.

The visitors left yesterday morning when Marshal Lá Taxi Hsin and other prominent officers and officials were present on the Government Pier to wish them farewell.

Mr. Mayor-I wish to thank Your Worship most cordially, and through you the people of Canton, for the splendid reception which has been given me. I thank you also for the magnificent repast with which you have just regaled me, in every way worth of the most sumptuous traditions of municipal hospitality.

As one who has lived in Canton and been a citizen of the Western Sururb, it is a very special plen sure to me to be the guest of the Mayor of Canton (Applause.).
