KENNEDY ROAD MURDER SEQUEL.
WILD ACCUSATIONS AT INQUEST BY DEAD MAN'S MOTHER
FORMER SWEETHEART'S STRAIGHTFORWARD “STORY.
ENTIRELY EXONERATED BY “JURY.
The sequel to the murder of the unfortunate young Chinese student, Fung Man Shin, in Kennedy Road on the night of February end, was heard at the inquest bold yesterday. A sensation was caused in the Coroner's Court when the deceased's mother accused the young Chinese married woman, who was out with Fung on that tragic night, of being implicated in the murder. She said that she suspected the young woman of having hired the assailants to murder her son. When pressed by the Coroner it became apparent that the allegations had nothing in them beyond the untural grief of the bereaved mother.
The young woman, But Pui Fong, said that she was at one time deceased's sweetheart. She left Hong Kong for Singapore about a year ago to get married. After a year or so with her hus band in Singapore she returned to Hong Kong to pay her mother a New Year's visit. "Sha was but walking with her sister, a cousin and two girls friends when she ran across her former sweetheart by chance. Apparently the old interest was ekindled and a ren dezvous was made, the young woman although in the company of four other girls arranging the appointment without their knowledge. The abore transpired in evidence a police whistle. A few minutes given yesterday when the inquest later severs persons came to the on the death of Fung Man Shin was scene, and witness requested them held. Mr. R. E. THE UNICORN'S HEAD.
The City Hall which has been the recipient of much sarcnem and even called 'a “monstrosity" is now undergoing a thorough overhaul and many alterations will be made.
The work will take two months to complete and the authorities - are sparing na expense to ronovate the whole building. The present. roof will be removed and a new one pub on. Between the root and the ceil ing there will be a stretch of canvas on a frame which should render the building water-peal.
The ceiling will be inlaid with teak fillet, formed into small squares and, as could be seen from the blue, prints, it will be a very beautiful piece of work against a setting of white plaster..
The alterations will include "the turning of the present museum into
