Sir Miles Lampaon, British Minister to Peking, was accorded a very cordial welcome on his arrival yesterday.in Canton by H.M.S. Tarantula.
The Canton Government extended an official welcome and both General Li Toni Hsin and Sir Miles expressed a sincere wish to see peace and friendship between the British and Chinese nations. The British Minister emphasised the sympathy felt by the Govern ment and people whom he represented for the aspirations of Chinese Nationalism, and that 'our aim was trade in China and not political influence..
