RETURNS.

LOCAL IMPORTS, HIGH.'

THROUGH CARGO LOW,

With seventeen vessels arriving in the Colony during the 24 hours ended at 9 a.m. yesterday morning the general cargo for this port, although lower than the previous day, remained high. Through cargo, however, was very much lower than the day before.

The total freight for Hong Kong amount to 21 tons of which three British vessels carried 988 trips. The two leest returns" were shown by two Japanese steumers the

Kürei Maru, and the H Tenshu Marn. The former arrived from Osaka and Amoy with tons while the latter from Wakana- tsu and Karaton contributed 3,013 tous. Through ferights, were very flow, the total of general merchan dise for other ports amounting to only 4.553, of which 4,489 tons were curried by four British vessels. The two best returns were from the British steamer Cumlichoak arriv. ing from New York and Manila with 3,300 tons, and the Tuamania Varu (Japanese) with 2,403 tons from Mojí.

Sergeants Madgewick and Lyon, the prosecuting stated that in course 01 their patrol on the morning of the 10th instant, they saw the starboard light of the sican-launch Dirk directly north of them. They blew one blast on their whistle but the Dirk failed to take the warning, this was repeated but still without heed.
