A Narrow Escape. The Honourable the Principal Medical Officer had a narrow escape from disaster when returning from a trip up the Kinabatangan in the motor launch Gomantong on Jan. 8th. Bad weather was encoun tered" soon after leaving the Kuala at Mumiang "at 6.30 am., and at about 8.30 a heavy sea struck the launch, nearly overturning her completely. As, it was she tilted over at right angles-all, loose barang being swept into the sea, and the engine being put out of " MACEDONIA" action immediately. Luckily theKILDERFURE" 634 Launch righted herself but was of "TANUA " course holpless and drifted for WALIPURE" some time off the entrance to the KASMALA" harbour. Most fortunately a Chi-TILAWA" rese-owned Inunch appeared after KASHMIR” some hours, and seeing signals us distress went to the help of the castaways and towed them into 147 Sandakan We congratulate our "MANTDA”.
