R.A.S.C. DRIVER'S TRAGIC DEATH.

INQUEST VERDICT: “DEATH FROM MISADVENTURE,"
The tragic death of Driver Charles William Begley, of the M.T. Detachment, R.A.S.C., which occurred last Friday night while he was driving a Marria six-wheeler motor ambulance down Dairy Farm Hill, Pokfulam, was recalled yesterday afternoon, when Mr. R. E. Lindsell, sitting as Coroner, with a jury, conducted an enquiry at the Central Magistracy.
The evidence showed that Begley, a young man, of 27 years of age. took the ambulance dut Trom Wellington Barracks during the evening, and that he had previously been drinking, but witnesses stated that he was not drunk and appeared to be driving steadily.. After visiting Lyemun Barracks, be appears to have driven around the island, his trip-ending disastronaly on a road unknown to him. The ambulance overturned while rounding a dangerous bend, and Begley was pinned underneath it and was dend when found.
Mr. Lindsell, in addressing the jury, told them that while they might feel inclined to pass an expression of opinion on the circum- stances under which the ambulance was taken out by the deceased. it was not their duty to do so, but that it was a matter solely for the military authorities to inquire as to why it was taken from the barracks without official permission.

In his option, the drivers of military vehicles had not driven around the Island or On the Pokfulam Rond. The roads gen erally used were to Lyeman, Mount Austin, and the Peak.
