With only twelve vessels arriving here during the 24 hours ended at Dan. yesterday, freights innifest ed for ports beyond the Colony were lower than the previous day. Cargo for this port, however, res mained normal.

There were 15,198 tons of general merchandise imported. of which, erdy 2315 tons were contributed by British steaNUNI, The two best re- turns were 5,330 tons of coal by the Shinsei Maru No. 1' from Chiawanglao, and 2,200 tona gen- eral by the Tai Fook Sing from Salgor

Though freichts amented to 9.771 tons, of which, 6,051 tons were contributed by three British vessels. The best returns were hown by the sa. Vellore and the Batch shig Tinalak from Antwerp and Singapore with and the latter from Dairen and Amey with 3720 tons.

Electric Drive In New Lizers, Among the interesting develop ments in the new liners ordered for the P.&O. Company, in the case of one vessel of 19,000 tons the propulsion will be by electnic drive in association with turbines. In the other case the boiler pressure will be raised up to 400 b. to the sq. in. Higher pressure has been applied in one ease, but up to the present the general pressure in marine boilers has been about 930
