DECREASED CARGOES.

ONLY EIGHT ARRIVALS,

The Harbour Office returns for the 24 hours anded at 9 a.m. yester- considerable drarense day showed in freights both for this Colony and for other ports.

Local imports amounted to 7,333 tons. Of these one British steamer The two best contributed 30 tons. roturns were 3,200 tons by the s.. Heath Cheng from Saigon and 2,000 tona by the sa firam from Bang kok and Hoihow.

Through freights were carried by four steamers and amounted only to 1,308 tons. Three British steamers accounted for 635 toss.

AMERICAN SHIP RESCUES JUNK CREW.

EX LONGSTORIMAN.].

The West umentum, an Ameri; ship, was responsible for saving the lives of thirty men who had been adrift for cleven hours,. their junk, having been rammed by a Japanese vessel.

The junk was between Chiuchow and Fashow and about four miles off the Oekseu Light, when the coliisiga occurred. The crew clung to the wreckage and were eventual- ly picked by the West Fomentum circumstances of great

under "difficulty.

They were brought back to Hong Kong and were repatriated to Amoy by the S.C.A.
