LI TSAI HSIN LEAVES FOR CANTON?

YESTERDAY'S INFORMAL VISIT TO ME. THE

GOVERNOR.

THE SITUATION IN THE EAST RIVER DISTRICT,

WHERE THE FUTURE OF CANTON WILL BE DECIDED.

Geral Li Tsai, Hsin spent yesterday in Hong Kong. He arrived here by the French M.S. Andre Lelor accompanied by several important officials. The present Government of Canton was expecting him here and a representative awaited the Kwangsi Irader.

In the cure of the day General Li Tsai Isin made a per- sonal visit to H. E, the Governor (Sir Cecil Clementi, K.C.M.G.) at Claveranenc House being intranced by the Hon. Sir Shou Son Chow and the Hon. Mr. R. H. Kotewall, C.M.G. The interview tasted about an hour.

Six cabins were booked by the party on beard the Fushati * which was due to leave at midnight last night. Some doubt was expressed in Chinese circles as to whether General Lis would not remain a few days in flong Ron In view of the situation in Kwangtung, and the urgent call sent him from Canton it is probable that he was among the party leafing.

General Li Tsal Hain has pressed his determination to alea! forribly with the Reds" and alsh to conduct a vigorous campaign against the Ironsides. He adheres to his old policy of an alliance with Kwangs but a break with the Northern expedition and the promotion at pener in South China.

The success or failure of the 4th Army remains the crux of the matter. If they can beat the Kwangsi forces they are free to march into Canton. If they continue their present retreat they may join the remnants of Tang Seng Chị's army in Hunan.
