The R.M.S. Empress of Asia FOUR VESSELS IN BALLAST. arrived here yesterday from Van- couver and Shanghai. She had on board 107, cabin passengers, for Hong Kong and 33 for Manila There were 78 third class passengers: for Hong Kong and three for Manila Steerage passengers for Hong Kong numbered 339, and there were 3 for Manila.

Very little cargo was carried by the vessels arriving here during the 34 hours ended at 9 a.m. "yesterday. There were 14. Arrivals but four were in ballast. Those carrying freights showed," a very poor tonnage.

Out of eight stemmers discharging here, a total of 4,010 tons of general merchandise were imported into the Colony. Two British ships con tributed only 435 tons, and the only four figure return was shown by the Norwegian steamer Prosper. She arrived here. from Saigon with 2,200 toris.

Through freights were mostly ear. ried by British vessels. The total amount manifested was 5,987 tons, of which, 5,183 tons were in British bottoms. The two best returns were on the British ships City of Peking

and the St. Albans. The former arriving from Dunkirk and Singa pore carried 4,000 tons and the latter from Yokohama and Moji

had 1,100 tons,
