missing badly.

The greens were quite true, but they were playing very fast, and pults bad to be struck very accur- ately if they were going to" drop. The holes too were out in perfectly fur positions, so that the pace of the greens was the only difficulty. There was very little wind, and the scores ought really to have been good deal lower.

Smith lost the first four holes all in a row, and he could zever get them back again. His best chance was about half-way through the second round. He had taken two consecutive holes off Andrewes, who was hooking all his long iron shots, but he kept giving away abota, and halving holes which he ought to have won

The driving of both players was patchy. Some of it was very good indeed, but there were times when aoither of the players seemed cap able of getting down to the ball.

Scores do not necessarily tell very uch in match play, but there were far too many sixes on the card, and to halve a hole in seven is de- plorable. Though there were many line shots played in the coume of the two rounds, there seemed to be no real continuity in the play" of either of the finalists.

On the day. Andrewes always looked the stronger player, and he played the better game. It is really surprising that he did not win by more than 4 and 3. After the first four holes, which were so disastrous for Smith, it was level pegging, and set Andreves was more in the picture than his opponent.

The desirability of holding the Schneider Trophy contest every two years instead of annually has Air Minister (Sir Samuel Hoare) been discussed between the British and General Balbo (the Italian Under-Secretary for Air) who is paying a short visit to London.

He is slight ly concussed and it is sincerely hoped that he will soon be riding again. Usher won this on Easter Day by a length from The Gomeril well ridden by Pollock. The latter pony's performance was particularly good as he had not previously been over the sticks. The race for "B" Class ponies attracted a field of a fine race on 15 and was won by Reidy who rode (Bulteel up) was a good second with Yorks. Scooter Bolton on Man o' War close behind. GOOD AND NAUGHTY":

AT THE QUEEN'S.

POLA NEGRI IN A FRENCH FARCE

CHRISTMAS PROGRAMMES,

(BY OUR FILM CRITIC.}

Good and Naughty" has been adapted for the screen from Freach farce, and marvellous to say it still remains good, naughty, and sparkling. Pola Megri plays the heroine, and justifies her reputation as one of the loveliest and most fascinating women of the screen she is not a "vamp," neither is she peculiar appeal of only the really a fluffy coquette, but she has that beautiful woman which draws all the audience into her embrace.

The story is not a new one-lew successful farces are-but it is pre- sented in a fresh and amusing an ner.

Germaine Morris (Pola Negri) is a wealthy young woman who for the love of Gorald Grey (Tom Moore) works in his architect's office. Like W. J. Lockie's Clamen- tina Wing, Germaine cares nothing for her appearance and looks as unattractive as an "arty" young woman can. But again like Locke's heroine to save her man from the clutches of professional divorcée, she suddenly blossoms out; and with the aid of gorgeous clothes and skilful face culture, wins his love.

That is the outline; Geralda part- ner, the busband of the ramp and a pugilist all join Gerald in the persuit of the metamorphorised Ger Those are plenty of bed- room scenes, of a' discrete order. and plenty of "good and naughty" situations,

iname.

Tom Moors of the charming smile and rugged face, you will remem ber him as cinderella's policeman. is excellent as the much persued Gerald; he manages very happily to steer clear of that affection and consciousness of his attractive per sonality that turns a good autor into a "matinét idol."
