Pixrso, Dec. 1st. Under date of November 29th. The Tongahan correspondent of the Peking, and Tientsin Timet whites:
TIENTSIS. There is no man in China more generally execrated all round than Feng Yu Hsiang, and for that reason, among others, his foreign
I visited Tangehinchwing yeater- friends, chiefly belonging to mis- sionary circles, have sought to de-day on business. The town is 9 l from Kuyeh. In the north section fend him, but they are giving up there are tall house which are the all effort, for Feng's record in dwelling quarters of the senior Honan Mince his reoccupation of staff of the Kalan Mining Ad- ministration. At the extreme north that province has shocked friends there is a large water pump, and towards the south there I 2 and foes alike.
Higher Primary School for boys, a social club, and a school for girls. In the south section there are dwelling quarters for the clerical staff and the labourers a
Honan to-day is the most wretch ed and hopeless of all the provinces of this despairing Republic, though others before Feng contributed to this, and the expulsion of the for- eigner, who might help towards restoration, is almost complete. Here and there, especially in the southern districts, a few traders or missionaries hang on, but general ly speaking it is a forbidden land. It is the only province which the missionaries have not attempted to reoccupy since the general evacua- tion laat spring.
1,000 Non-Combatants Killed... When other disturbed provinces were settling down to some sort of order during August and Septemn ber, and both missionaries and traders were returning cautiously and it small numbery to the in- terior, pillage and massacre of the Chinese were being carried on in Honan, followed by the looting and burning of missionary properties by Feng's troope. The massacre at Changtela (Changteho) on August 8th, when nearly 1,000 non-com- batants were slain in the streets by the Kueminchun, was followed by the burning of many buildings and the slaughter of villagers for three miles on either side of the railway all the way from Changte to Weihui.
Unhappy Welhai.
These houses and their compound walls are built af bricks and stones and are unusually strong. Electric lamps are installed in each house, and there is water pump in" every street, Business is prosperous and the houses are all occupied. Al though the Kailan Mining Ad ministration constantly build more houses, yet they do not seem to be sufficient to meet the need..
