We have received the following message which the Canton Government is addressing by telegram to the world and are pleased to give it the publication which they ask:-

Under the instigation and direction of the Russian *** Soviet Consul in Canton, on the night of December 10th, 1927, the Communists together with local bandits and some few disloyal soldiers ransacked the City of Canton, setting fire to important business sections, occupying administrative offices, robbing, raping and murdering.

The Government of Canton, on the night of December 12th, with the Revolutionary Army under the leadership of Chang Fah-bul, Huang Chi-chang, Li Fu-lin, Hsueh An and Cha Hui-yet successfully and completely defeated and destroyed Communism in Osaton.

Peace and order were restored on the following day.

WHY THE GREAT PLOT FAILED:

[FROM OUR CHINESE CORRESPONDENT,]

By order of the Political Council, now governing Canton, four mem bera of the Military Council-Mr. Chan Kung Pok, General Chang Fat Fui, General Wong Kie Cheung, and General Chu Fai Yat-were dismissed yesterday from all offices. The cause was stated to be their failure to foresee the "Red" coup and inability to take proper action when the attempt was discovered.

SEAMEEN, Dec. 13th.

I was an eye-witness of the attack made by Li Fuk Lam's troops DG Tuesday morning. The gunboats played a decisive part and it was under cover of their fire that troops were rushed over from Honam in steam launches. They were landed at two points, to the East and West extremities of the Bund and wert thus able to surround targe num pers of the Reds, whose resistance was broken by 11 a.m..

Some bullets flew in the direction of the French Concession but the place was heavily guarded, by French soldiers and no incident

occurred.
