Papers from Shanghai give graphic details of the recent shoot- ing affray between an armed kidnapper and two British constables, in which P.C. Francis was killed and P.C. Read seriously wounded. The kidnapper was killed. Describing the incident the N.-C. Daily -Yes RF:-
Two foreign police constables, following an armed kidnapper, chased him into a veritable death trap on Saturday, afternoon at 1240, Kuling Road, with the un- fortunate consequences that Con- stable Thomas Robert Francis was. shot dead and P.C. Alfred Read was shot in the stomach.
