Various opinions have been given of Canberra, the new capital of Australia. A correspondent of the Sylucy Morning Herald takes op the cudgels in its behalf and penned the following panegyric on October

18th.

"Canberra is one vast explosion of colour and perfume in these high days of spring. Tulips like, gold and ebony chalices for the intoxi- cating wine of sunlight; tourists tempted by deliriously fine air to the excess of wearing checquered and baggy tweeds that would mark them for life anywhere else; cattle growing indecently fat on the lush river flats; and generally an atmos phare of abandon, which manifests itself in bright ties, sweeps for the Melbourne Cup, and taxis Queanbeyan, signify the end of winter, and westerly winds, and mud in the tea, and bronchitis.
