[DR. BITEPPARD, A VICAR OF ST. MARTIN'S-IN-THE-FIELDS, TRAFALGAR SQUARE, LONDON, HAD FROM 1014 À UNIQUE POSITION IN THE RELIGIOUS WORLD OF LONDON. HE ATTRACTED TO THAT CHURCH, WHICH HAD NOT FOR MANY GENERATIONS HAD MUCH PART IN LONDON INTEREST, GREAT CONGREGATIONS FROM ALL RANKS OF LIFE AND FROM ALL OVER THE TOWN, AND BY HIS EAGER AND VITAL PERSONALITY HE RETAINED THEIR OWING TO INTEREST AND MOVED, THEM TO DEFINITE SOCIAL WORKS, ILL-HEALTH.
