Only recently I heard of 211 example of this *mendicant ** attitude when the Secretary of an Old Boys' Association began to collect one dollar aubacriptions from Old Boya to give a promising young cricketer a bat as a reward for two high scores against two weak tama on small grounds. Fortunately, I understand, the matter was prompt. ly squashed by the strong action of the Headmaster who has stopped all prizes at his school and is try: ing to train his boys to play on N. principle for the game and for the honour of the School: This appears to me to be the right attitude to take, and, especially so, in view Mr. of the great need of leaders in the adjoining. country who would be dock's Thistledown willing to work for the honour of their country and not for their own pocket or praise-Yours faithfully,

SIR-I am fully in necord with "Critic's" letter to the papers on Monday. That Mr. E. C. Fincher has not been included in the Hong Kong Interport team is, I think, very unfair on the part of the Selection Committee and it has been the cause of widespread "dissatis faction.
