The fact that so many mem bers of the felt wing are taking office naturally gives rise to 3 beling of uneasiness but it does not necessarily follow that all will ally themselves immediately with the extreme section of the Labour party. As stated Li Tsui Hain is still in a strong position and there are hopes that a peaceful policy will be pursued.

An official announcement by the Canton Harbour Master, dated October 19th, states that the enforce ment of martial law at Whampoa has now beer discontinued.

The Canton Municipal Depart ment of Education is opening 20 public schools for which ro fees will be charged. Canton has already more than 70 public schools at which a small fee is still collected from each pupil.

The Sun Yat Sen University is to reorganise its boy scouts under one district scoutmaster within the jurisdiction of the University, The boy scout movement is very popular in Canton, and the Kuomintang

litical Party have a special de partment to promote this movement. The first scoutmaster in Ceaton Was Mir. Huang Hain Chao, who founded a troop 14 years ago. Boy scouts are now to be found in almost every district in Kwangtung."

THE SEAMEN AND PRINTERS..

Both the Military and the Union authorities in Canton are trying to suppress information regarding the recent seamen's fracas in which a large number of pedestrians on the Taiping Road were more or less seriously injured. Since Friday, the Chief of Police has issued another Iroclamation making it unlawful for Union leaders and pickets to use force, or to make arrests.

Canton and vicinity will have no newspapers this (Monday) morning, because the printers are on holiday. Some months ago the printers in Canton succeeded in ousting the extremists from the Union. These de- gentry have for same time been manding their jobs back and now they have got them and celebrated the event with general holiday yesterday. The employers are powerless and this is another asigu of the strength of the extremists are present moment.
