It is also stated that he was prac tically compelled to leave Hanków and Hupeh province, simply because of an ultimatum sent to him by Marshal Wu Pei Fu and General en suggesting pointedly that he (General Tang) confine bis attention exclusively to Hunan.

PEKING, Sept. 97th. Tang Seng Chi hurriedly left Hankow on the 28th inet, for Changsha, it is believed, owing to disquieting news from Hunan. But it is reported in some quarters that his departure was due to an ulti natum from Wa Pei Fu and Yang Sen demanding that he evacuate Hupeh and hold only Hunan.

Tang Seng Chi's delegate, Tsao Tien Chin, arrived in Peking on the 23th inst., and is proposing co operation with Fengtien and Shansi. Tun Yen Kai also sent his brother from Naaking here for similar ecgotiations.

Chibli troops have now occupied Shuntehla and are advancing to wards Shitchinchwang. It is anti- cipated that they will shortly attack Konan from the north.
