Aquatic Meeting, and the V.R.C. Night Fete, while yesterday after- 'noon the third annual swimming gale of the South China Command Sports Board was held at Royal Army Service Corps Camber. There is yet to be held this week the Garrison School and the Police and Prison Depts. Aquatic Sports.

Yesterday's function, which was under the patronage of H. E. Major General CC Luard, C.B., C.MÍ.G. (General Officer Commanding, South China Command) and under the Presidency of Lieut. Col. L Comyn, C.M.G.. D.S.O. (King' Own Scottish Borderers), was most successful affair.

There was no rain to mar the proceedings, and though, sunshine was missing, the weather was not too exhausting either for competi- tors or, still more, for the hard working and capable officials of whom Capt. J. A. Chester was the capable Hon. Secretary and RS. Parkerson (K.O.S.B.) the capable

M.C.

There was a lengthy and varied programme, and every event was carried" through with success, and quite well up to time.

The meeting started at 3.30 p.m. and continued until nearly dusk. but interest was well sustained throughout.

A large assembly of officers and men from the local military forces, watched the events, every regiment and unit being represented, while A good many Navy people were also present. There were a number of interested civilians and ladies turn ed out in force for the occasion.

The men of the various units followed the events with great keen- mess, and the roars of cheering at the conclusion of the principal events could be clearly heard in the road. The meeting was another triumph for Bombadier Norris, 12th Hy. Hty RA, who won the In- dividual Army Championship Cup, the yards Army Championship and the 150 yards Army Champion ship.

Major-General Luard paid a warm tribute to the bombardier's prowess saying that there was still no one in the garrison really to extend him The G.O.C.'s A.D.C., Lieut. R. Q. F. Johnstone, repeated his successca of the last two years in the officert

race for the Luard Cup, and was also complimented.

The whole event was, as Major- General Luard aptly said "a very jolly afternoon," in which the ad- mirable band programme and the catering of Messrs. Lane, Crow ford, Ltd., bore their part.

A very pleasing function was the presentation of a clock to B.Q.M.S. Steels, from the Garrision Sports Club, of which he used to be the energetia hon. secretary before it was merged with the prescat South China Command Sports Board,

The Officials,

The officials in charge of the ar- rangements and carrying out the sports were:

Major-Genarai Luard's dengratulations, Major-General Luard remarked that this was the third year that these sports, practically inaugurat ed by Q.38. Steel had been held, and he personally was very glad to be there to present the prizes for the third time. One thing thats was indisputable was that they had, one swimmer, Bombardier Norris, who was unsurpassed by anyone in the Army out here. He won a large number of races last year and re- peated his success this year and he had considerably improved on last year's times. That means he had been more pushed, and no one knew exactly what he would do it he were really pushed. This year, however, he had had to swim out harder than ever before. They had all had a very jolly afternoon. The children had showed up parti- cularly well, especially the little competitor who came in last in the giris race. The distance she awam, was very creditable for one of her "went As to the officers no one," 48. The boys had also one well. on the G.O.C., no one can beat my AD.C, though he is steadily getting older!" (Laughter.)

Their President. Lieut-Colonel Comyn, and all the officials had worked very hard indeed to make This this a successful afternoon, was particularly so of the Hon. Secretary, Capt. J. A. Chester. A great deal of time had to be put in arranging an affair; of this sort and for a busy. man like Capt. Chester, that meant a large portion of his leisure. They were very mach indebted to Caot, Chester and alt who had helped him.

Major-General Luard then dis tributed the prizes, with a special word of praise to the successful competits in the children's events, and it was easy to see that the younger generation know that they have in him a very good friend,
