HONG KONG IS LIVING UP TO ITS RE- PUTATION. LAST WEEK WE HAD A 'TYPHOON OF CONSIDERABLE FORCE. THIS WEEK WE HAVE HAD A TYPHOON "SCARE" AND TWO MORE PIRACIES AT BIAS BAY.

In Canton, at the present moment, the difficulties seem to be of a financial nature. There has been a run on the Central Bank, through which the Government authorities conduct the greater part of their financial business, and the merchants generally are protesting strongly against the extraordinary demands for money which are now being made upon them for military expenses.

According to reports from the Yangtaze the Northern troops have gained substantial. victories.
