“ RESTORATION OF OLD ALLIANCE."
that
Sir Herbert Samuel, insugurating tha Liberal Summer School at Cam- bridge, drew a distinction between the Labour movement and the Labour party and said Liberalisan might continue to be in general agreement with the ong while it was at variance with the other. The divergence was chiefly
due to the fact that the ortunes
party had identified its with the theory of Socialism. The Socialist principle was an unsafe" | guide in practical politics, and as long as the Labour-party tied its fortunes to" that principle so long would it be impossible for thinkers who had no faith in it to throw in their lot with that party.
