Raru CITY, June 24th. "I intend to get back on the job as soon as my health permits" declar ed Governor General Wood accord. ing to a United Press message in the Manila Bulletin, in an interview with press correspondents following his conference with President Coolidge.

"The time for independence in the Philippines has not yet arriv ed," he said when asked to comment on the political situation. The Filipino political leaders are blow- ing hot air although the majority of people in the islands do not know what it is all about.

Stands By Coolidge, President Coolidge did exactly right in vetoing the bill providing for a plebiscite on independence. Granting the Philippines freedom at this time would be like putting a small boy in an airplane and ordering him to fly.

It is run by Charles Gay, a native of France, and a former lion trainer, who, when the motion picture industry began to use wild animals in its productions, realised that here was an opening for some- thing more trained animal.

Governor General Wood's return to the United States and his con- ference with President Coolidge have stimulated unusual nation wide interest in the Philippines.

The details of his arrival and meeting with the president have been printed prominently in news- papers throughout the country. Editorials describe his feeble health and applaud his apparent deter- mination to continue as Governor General.

The Philadelphia Public Ledger says that

Governor Wood's task is not yet finished." The editorial praises the insular administration and says:

"Wood bore the brunt of the unpopularity and resentment in evitably growing out of implanting United States control and the asser tion of United States authority." It says that Wood has made "good progress.
