NUTHALL BEATS MRS. MALLORY.

SPLENDID PERFORMANCE.

The outstanding feature of play at Wimbledon yesterday, was the victory of Miss Belty Nuthall, the 16 years-old English player, over! Mrs. Mallory, of America, by: 2-6, 6-2, 6-0.

There was alternating sunshine and shadow and a very large crowd. At the centre court, a packed arena broathlessly followed the match. between Miss Nuthall and Mrs. Mallory, and there were alternating signs and cheers as Our Betty After a very uncertain start, played. the most brilliant game of her career. Wimbledon has never aven

more popular victory.

Miss Nuthall, after over-driving in the first set, wou the accond with immeasurably superior forehand driving, while in the third set she gave a wonderful all-round display, being especially impregnable on the lack hand and making spectacular volleys.
