TRAWLER SUNK.
BRIXHAM CREW LANDED AT
FOWEY...
COLLISION IN A. FOG.
A graphic account of the running down of the fishing trawler Silent, which was manned by a Brixham crew, off Looe Island was given to the Western Weekly Newe last month by the skipper and owner, Charles Carter, of Ramsgate.
The Silent, which was registered at Ramsgate sunk within twenty minutes, everything, including the crew's belongings and a cargo of fish valued ab between £45 and £50, being lost.
It was with considerable difficulty that the crew of the Silent, Charles Kellaway, and a Brixhain man, named Drake, clambered aboard the other Vessel involved in the impact, which made its way to Fowey Harbour, where she now

'Midships Crash.
It was in dense fog that the collision occurred. The Silent was procceding from Mount's Bay to Brixham with a cargo of fish for the Brixham market, with lights burning and the fog-horn sounding. Suddenly a Dutch motor vessel, afterwards, ascertained to be the Leeuwerik (98 tona), skippered by Captain Hindelles, bound from Exeter to Fowey, Toomed up, and before the course of either vessel could be altered the Dutch boat crashed 'inidships into the Silent.
I was in my cabin at the time," said Captain Carter, and the first thing I heard was the chugging of sinotor boat. A few seconds later there was a crash and a shock. 1 rushed up on deck and found that the Leckerik, had run into the Silent on the port bow. She had cut into about four planks under water to the depth of about four deck planks.
"The two vessels were locked together, and the third hand the Silent, &
man named Drake, of Brixhain, scrambled to the deck of the Dutchman, whose owner then assisted the mate, Charles Kelln- way, of Brixham, to board the ecumerik, but Kellaway stipped or in some way slightly injured him-

I then clambered aboard myself over our jib-boom, und Dutchman backed away one of her as the houta was lowered to see if thore was any chance of saving the Silent. She was sinking rapidly, how- ever, the water being then within two planks of the bulwarks, and within 20 minutes of the collision she went down, with all our belong ings and cargo. We stood by until she went down
The Leeuwerik then stood in for Fowey Harbour."
