The

News from Tokyo is to the effect that members of what is described as the "Second Kuomintang Branch" held a meeting at the Chinese Y.M.C.A. in Tokyo on the 12th instant. purpose of the meeting was to demonstrate against Japanese mobilisation for China. The police, however, raided, the premises and broke up the meeting. In the scullin, #2 of the Kuomintang were injured and 85 arrested.

The matter is being taken up by the Chinese Chargé d'Affàirca at Tokyo and the Japanese Government.

The Southern Army claira fresh victories in Shantung and Kiangsu.

They also claim to have captured 7,000 Shantung troops and a large quantity of ammunition.

Meanwhile, the Fengtienese seem determined to continue to appose the Southerners, and doubtless the big struggle will take place in Chibli province.

The attack upon the Wuhan rities seems to

be gathering

strength.

Haichow city has been lonted by both Northern and South- "ern-soldiers, and the Japanese these recaped with difficulty. Those on board one of their ships, carrying refugees, were subjected to nuch insolent treatment by Southern soldiers.
