HONG KONG JOCKEY CLUB 4th EXTRA RACE MEETING.
SALIGIA WINS AGGREGATĖ STAKES.
EXCELLENT RACING AND GOOD
DIVIDENDS.
[BY RAPIER.J
The attendance at the above Meeting on Saturday afternoon was foir but the sport provided was above the average. The events were run off with eback work regularity and the general arrange. ments were a silent tribute to th Clerk of the Conese and the Jockey Club Oficirds.
The Band of the K.0.5.B.'s under Mr. W. H: Fitz-Earle, well chest and A.B.C.M., onherned, the proceedings with a Excellently rendered programuic of music.
Honours were evenly distributed and Mr. R. J. Paterson did well in getting two rather unexpected whs although Septimber's wontribution to the stabb is somewhat overdue. 1
In all branch's
Saligia's win was received with acclamation. of sport the public get rather tired of seeing the same winner turn up regularly and a return to Fæn after a lapse is always wel. comed. Interest in the Aggregate staks is, moreover, intensified by Saligia's win as the points to date are baligia (hökler), S, Bacarat 7, Maruo Beauty 6, Brigade Call 5, Misty Eve 2. Saligia's time of 2.04.3-5 is the best this year in the Stukes. The recal time for the Course is 2.02.2-5.
The results of the handiraps were much better than I expected they windd be and Mr. C. M. S. Alves is to be congratulated apon his good work in this connection. Bing Bay I thought was too heavily weighted but he won as also did September which I said
ught to be in "B" Class.
The magnificent race provided by the "A" Class 6 furlongs disarmed criticism and the Handicapper has secured immunity but only till next Meeting.
The Starter and his Assistant must have had a rather trying time standing in the sau but they were quite unruffled although surrounded by enemies, as tiders regard all Starters as thriv natural foes.
THE RACING.
In the first race Mr. Seth brought Bing Bay to victory and paid a dividend of $83.50. Loch Rannoch was favourite but was well benten with King Alan 3 lengths away. The return of Harold Seth to the saddle was the cension for an out- barst of applause as I returned to the weighing room.
Messrs. Stanton and Reidy's San Diego has apparently come to stay and a win of two lengths with 163 Ibs. up makes him a good pony. There seems to be a perfect under- standing between this pony and Stanton and it is just possible that he was bribed to win by the pro- misc of an extra feed. Grey Knight and Loch Tuumel filled the places and the favourite, Longwa, was nowhere. This pony does well in Macau but, like Dick Lo, he seems unable to do his best here.
The third-race was easily the best sen at the Valley for some time. Four ponies finished almost in
ne n the task of the Judges was n light one. Shanghai Friend and September dead hented with Battle Eve filling the third place.
Saligia seemed to rau better than rver in the Stakes and won easily. Had he been pressed his time would have been very near the re- card.
Position and pare count good deal in a race of this sort and Pollock's experience stand him in good stead as the race was by means a gift despite Saligia's
fitness.
