FRENCH HEROINE'S AT

MANSION HOUSE.

ANNUITY CERTIFICATES PRESENTED BY LORD MAYOR.

BRITISH ARMY'S TRIBUTE.

Four French peasant women in dresses of rough black cloth mount ed the platform of the famous Egyptian Hall of the Mansion House, EC., to be presented to the Lord Mayor, Sir Rowland Blades, 3.P., and the Lady Mayorces.

As they passed through an avenue between members of the City Cor- poration in their robes and officers in British scarlet and French blue they were obviously ill at caso, al when a military band played and nearly 3,000 people in the area of the ball shouted a welcome they halted in bewildered diffidence.
