RETURNS.

LOCAL & THROUGH GARGOES

GOOD BRITISH ENTRIES.

Freight returns of vessels arriz- ing here during the week-end show- ed that both local and through cargoes were heavy.

There were 37,055 tons of freight for Hong Kong and 31,793 tons for ports beyond the Colony daring the 48 hours ended at 9am. yestar- day.

Saturday's Statement,

Out of the 14 vessels arriving here on Saturday, only nine dis charged bere. The total amount of cargo landed was 14,462 tons of thea, 3,744 tons were rice, 4,550 tons were coal and only 4,168 tons of general merchandise.

General cargo amounting to 1,891 tons were carried by two British steamers. The two best returns were 2,800 tons and 1,581 tons. The former were carried by the ... Hiram (Norwegian) from Bangkok and the latter were by the Empress of Canuda from Vancouver and Shanghai.

Through cargoes were manifested on six vessels out of the 14 arrivals. The total amount was 3,939 tons, of which, four British steamers were responsible for 1,918 tons. The beat carrier was the M. M. liner General Metzinger, which had 2,500 tons on board from Marseilles and Saigon.

Yesterday's Returns.

The returns for the 24 hours end- ed at 9 am yesterday showed a slight decrensein, inward cargo, while through freights had been considerably increased. Most of the cargoes were, carried by British

steamers.

The Colony's imperts amounted to 12,503 tons. These were dis charged from 13 vessels,, seven British atcamera accounting for 7,256 tons... The two beat returna were shown by the as Apocy (British) and the Japanese steamer Marinka Mar The former vessel arriving here from Saigon dis- charged 9,553 toas and the latter from Calcutta and Singapore, un loaded 2,973 tons.

Through freights were manifested ten steamers, and totalled 27,854

tems. Five British steamers were responsible for 11,425 tons.

The the best carriers were the 8.8. lain (Danish) and the Devándo (British). The former carried 8,036 tons from Singapore and the latter from Bombay and Calcutta carried 4,923 tons.

The arrivals and 'departures dur- ing the period under review were: British, 13 arrivals, and depar tries; Japanesh, 5 arrivals and 8 departures; Norwegian, 2 arrivals and 4 departures; Chinese, 4 ar- rivals and B departures; Dutch, 1 arrival and 2 departures, French, 1 arrival; Danish, 1 arrívál; Portu- guess, 1 departure; and Germän, 1 departure.
