STEVEDORES AND A BRITISH NAVAL PARTY.

The labour situation in Shanghai's International Settlement, is still very considerably affected by the pernicious influence of the "Red" element, whose activities are stated to be "mors inten- sive." Assassination of Chinese individuals, who have incurred the enmity of the extremists, still continues and inflammatory posters are still appearing in various places.

There have been no military developments as rain, continues and the country is sodden.

Further details are to hand regarding the recent incident at Ichang, when stevedores collided with a British Naval party. A. lieutenant of E.M. S. Ghat had his arm broken and several of the stevedores were injured.

A telegram from Hankow describes extraordinary happenings at one of the "British Cigarette Company's factories, when the workers attempted to run the place on their own."
