APPEAR TO-DAY.
The match between the Volunteers and the Army was cancelled ye terday, but the former met a team captained by Mr. A. A. Rumjahu, the Hon. Secretary of the, League, on the Club de Becreio ground. Many prominent players took part.
Mr. Ramjahn's team won and ha was responsible for a valuable con- tribution of 51 run for his side. Ramsay (K.C.C.) scored 41 for the Volunteers.

Sir Thomas Lipton's Career. Sir Thomas Lipton, who was born in Glasgow of frish parentage, at nine years old was an errand-boy at the weekly wage of half a crown. At 28 be started in Glasgow the little provision shop from which grew the vast organisation which bears his name.
