LONDON, January 29th. I learn that Colonel Ashley, the Minister of Transport, is proposing to abolish all speed limits for motor cars on British highways in the Road Vehicles Bill to be in the next session of

At the same time there will be more drastic penalties for dangerous and reckless driving. The Bill will also contain provisions for more stringent regulations in the control of public service vehicles. existing 20m.p.h. maximum is exceeded by all motorists, usually without risk, and it is bad in principle to have regulations which it is undesirable to enforce. Some people think that the raising of the speed limit to, say, 4m.p.h, would conduce to the general speeding-up of motor trafe and to recklessness, but on the other hand regulations in the Bill will throw the responsibility on the motorist of using reasonable care.

Nurses' Long Skirts. Should an alteration be made in the uniform of hospital nurses? A sub-committee of the Standing Joint Committee of Industrial Women's Organisations and the Labour Party's Advisory Committee on Public Health, recommends that there should be an alteration. A report issued by this body states that the uniform now worn by nurses has been little modified for years past. The tight bodices, long full skirts, atifi collars and cuffs, and the elaborate head-dresses were an improvement on women's dress at the time when they were adopted, but in this the authorities have not kept pace with modern ideas of hygiene and comfort.

"It has frightened many to life," he said, and he added that as a result a greater number than ever before of cancer victims in the curable stage had presented themselves for treatment. To 12 months nearly £150,000 had been collected for the

The disease was not hereditary, and there was insufficient proof that such things as "cancer houses" or "cancer districts" existed.
