PROGRAMME OF THE INAUGURAL MEETING.
The Inaugural, race meeting for Chias ponies of the International Race and Recreation Club of
animated appearance in the early THE EVENTS AND CONDITIONS morning as most of the prominent racing people are closely studying form. Amongst the more regular attenders are Messrs. H. P. White, T. Dhanbar, F. Sutton. I. II. Priestley, F. C. Hall, W. E. L Shenton, J. Peël, D. Abbey and Mr. He Kom Tong,
Mr. E. J. Paterson, the popular Clerk of the Course, is usually in attendance seeing that everything goes smoothly. Racing men never seem to grow old and the accret of, their youthful spirit is their in- terest in the sport coupled with early morning visits to the course and a sense of humour. The grass track is being used for galloping and it is in fine condition despite the absence of rain. Of the 45 sub- scription griffins at least 75 per cent. will race and probably all of them will go out in different events to qualify for the Extra Meetings. Luckily the ponies were all fat and when they arrived and it is not, therefore, necessary to train them intensively. Amongst the new owners, Mr. C. B. Brown, seems to bave done rather well in drawing Stonehenge and Mr. Ho Kom Tong has also secured & good, pony in Kom Tong Hall.
Sir Victor Sassoon has bought Bengal and it is now on its way here from Tientsia. This pony pre- viously belonged to Mesars. Fraser and W. H. Donald, Peking, and intterly to General F. A. Sutton, Yukdeo. There are acveral ponies [in Shanghai that would give Bengal a good race but it remains to be seen whether we have anything in his cinas down here at present. In Sinyong the soldiers were very much in evidence. Ten's, Chin's, and Wei's headquarters were there and their soldiers filled the streets. The marks of last year's warfare were everywhere in evidence. The foreign houses, the hospital and school buildings, the walls of the city, etc.,
