Four of the officers were. with the Suffolk Regiment in 1914, three of them with the battalion. Capt. R. W. Lesch was with the 1st Batt. from 1910 to 1914 as first lieutenant, while Capt. E. H. W. Backhouse, Capt. P. R. W. Carthew and Capt. S. P., Inskip joined the 2nd Batta lion, and were second lieutenants.to- gether in the early days of the war.
